Fresh off securing her ninth double-double of the season in Minnesota’s dramatic come-from-behind victory over Nebraska Monday night, Gopher women’s basketball player Amanda Zahui B. was named the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
The announcement was made by the conference on Tuesday.
Zahui played a big part in the Gophers rally against No. 12 Nebraska Monday. The 6’5″ sophomore scored 20 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, blocked four shots and had three steals in 36 minutes against the Huskers.
One of those four blocks came as time expired to seal the victory.
Zahui led the Gopher comeback by scoring 16 of her 20 points in the second half. Minnesota trailed by 17 with 10:41 to play, but the Gophers came storming back to knock off the Huskers and win their eighth straight.
Zahui’s nine double-doubles rank third in the NCAA this year. She also ranks fifth with a 4.08 blocks-per-game average and ninth in defensive rebounds-per-game at 8.0.
