You think Minnesota’s 72-51 loss at Iowa last Sunday was bad?
No. 18 Ohio State was drilled at Wisconsin the same day, by a similar score: 71-49.
Both teams have used the word “embarrassing” to describe the losses … and both look to get back on track tonight as they face each other in a Big 10 clash in Columbus.
The Down With Goldy blog isn’t too hopeful, predicting a 19-point Buckeye victory. As they put it: “The Gophers have turned from a sleeper Final Four candidate to a team that will crawl into the NCAA Tournament based on strong computer numbers and a hot start.”
Ouch.
Star Tribune writer Amelia Rayno describes both teams as “desperate” — with Ohio State losing three of four, and Minnesota losing seven of 10.
But the Gophers don’t sound like they’re in panic mode with five games left on the Big 10 docket. Quoting point guard Austin Hollins: “We don’t try to put extra pressure on ourselves … thinking about the negatives is just going to worsen things.”
