The University of Minnesota women’s basketball team takes on Concordia-St. Paul at Williams Arena on Wednesday night for the first exhibition game of the season, Gophersports.com reports. The Golden Gophers are coming off a 19 and 17 record — the first winning season in three years. Big Ten Freshman of the Year Rachel Banham is among the returning players for the Maroon and Gold. The Halloween-night contest is set to get underway at 7:00 p.m.
Amanda Zahui B., a 6-foot-5 center from Stockholm, Sweden, will join the Gophers women’s basketball team on Dec. 26, the Pioneer Press reports. “She worked extremely hard the last five months in order to become eligible, and it only reinforces how dedicated she is to becoming a Gopher,” Pam Borton said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the University of Minnesota men’s basketball team will face Minnesota State-Mankato at the Barn for their first exhibition match-up on Thursday. The Associated Press notes the Gophers have every starter returning from their squad that was runner-up in the NIT last spring to finish 23-15.
