It only took 16 seconds for the capacity crowd at Williams Arena to start holding their collective breath Wednesday night. It happened when Minnesota Golden Gophers leading scorer Andre Hollins was forced to leave the game against the Badgers after rolling his left ankle.
The replay showed Hollins’ left ankle bending nearly 90 degrees to the inside. It looked painful, and Hollins’ reaction told everyone it was.
It turns out the injury isn’t as bad as it looked. Hollins has been diagnosed with a severe ankle sprain, according to the Star Tribune.
Head coach Richard Pitino said Hollins is day-to-day and he hasn’t been ruled out for Sunday’s game at Nebraska, although the Pioneer Press reports that he is doubtful.
