Head coach P.J. Fleck’s Class of 2020 recruiting class is now ranked 24th in the country, according to 247 Sports.
Minnesota made the jump into the top 25 after receiving commitments from eight recruits in the past week, including two new commits on Monday in Texas athlete Dylan McGill and Georgia cornerback Victor Pless.
247 Sports describes McGill as a 6-foot-1, 194-pound athlete who played quarterback in high school. Minnesota appears to be the only Power Conference school (Big Ten, ACC, Big 12, Pac 12, SEC) to have offered him a scholarship.
Pless, listed at 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, picked Minnesota over offers from West Virginia, Syracuse, Oregon State, Louisville, Indiana, Houston, UConn and Boston College, among others.
Minnesota will likely bounce up and down in the 2020 recruiting rankings as other schools add commitments.
The rankings are based on average scores of each recruit. Minnesota’s 16 recruits total up enough points to rank fifth overall in the Big Ten, but the average recruit score ranks last in the Big Ten.
Of course, attaching ratings and stars to high school players tends to unfair and inaccurate in many cases. Just ask Adam Thielen, Aaron Rodgers, Antonio Brown or Carson Wentz, all of whom weren’t heavily recruited in high school.
