The No. 2 Gopher women’s hockey team swept St. Cloud this weekend with a 7-1 win Saturday and 4-0 shut out win Friday.
Minnesota has won five games against St. Cloud this season, as well as the last 25 games between the two teams, according to Gopher Sports.
Minnesota scored three goals in the last six minutes to seal the win at St. Cloud. The seven goals were put up by different Gophers, and 10 players had at least one point.
“I thought from the drop of the puck we were controlling the play with a lot of good puck movement. Lots of great chances, their goaltender made several big saves,” coach Brad Frost tells Gopher Sports. “In particular after last night, thinking we were a bit sluggish at times, I thought tonight was a real complete hockey game for us. I’m happy with the win and the sweep on the road.”
Minnesota had four goals before St. Cloud State put up its single goal by Alyssa Erickson late in the second period.
In the final 5:27 of the game, the Gophers scored three more.
Next up, the Gopher women host Ohio State on Friday in a two-game series. Admission is $1 for Friday’s Rock Ridder Night.
