For the Gopher women’s basketball team, good things happened in doubles Saturday – a double overtime win, and Amanda Zahui B. earned her 20th double-double with 27 points and 27 rebounds.
The Gophers beat Michigan 91-88 in a double overtime thriller at Williams Arena for their fifth straight win, and 22nd win of the season.
The Wolverines’ Nicole Embald tied the score 69-69 with a buzzer-beater shot at the end of regulation. The two teams fought hard in the first overtime period, and Embald tied it a second time with a layup with 10 seconds left, the Star Tribune reports.
Zahui B. sunk six points in the second overtime period, and the Gophers maintained the lead for the win.

By the numbers, Zahui B. broke her own school record – adding five blocks, totaling 109 for the season, and she had 66 points and 56 rebounds in the last two games. According to the Associated Press, that’s the most in a two-game stretch since 1999-2000.
Other Gophers put up big points – Shae Kelley also had a double-double with 23 points with 10 rebounds. Carlie Wagner hit 21 points.
Michigan saw players pass the 20-point mark too. Cyesha Goree had 26 points and 20 rebounds. Katelynn Flaherty hit a career-high 27, the AP reports.
The 22nd win for the Gophers is the magic number coach Marlene Stollings was waiting for. The Star Tribune reports she set the goal of 22 wins when she took over the team in April.
It was the last regular season home game for the Gophers. Seniors Kelley and Kayla Hirt were honored. The last two games of the season are on the road against Nebraska Tuesday, then to Iowa on March 1.
