The Minnesota Gophers women’s basketball team is headed to “The Big Dance.”
The Gophers were selected to their first NCAA women’s basketball tournament since 2009. Minnesota received a No. 8 seed and will play against DePaul in the opening round on Friday afternoon at Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
The Blue Demons were 26-7 and won their second straight Big East championship.
As you might imagine, with their first selection to the NCAA Tournament in six years, players and fans were excited to hear the news during a viewing party at Williams Arena.

Gophers coach Marlene Stollings was happy to be in the tournament field, but acknowledges they have more goals to accomplish.
Stollings: "We feel like we’re just scratching the surface of where we want to be…We want to be a team that’s vying for a No. 1 seed."

The Gophers finished the regular season at 23-9, and were 11-7 in the Big Ten. They were knocked out of the Big Ten Tournament by Ohio State on Mar. 6, and had to wait to find out where they would end up playing.
That wait ended on Monday night when they were selected to the ninth NCAA Tournament in program history.
