The Minnesota Gopher women’s hockey team beat Ohio State in a shootout Friday night after the teams tied 3-3 through overtime.
The Gophers’ Dani Cameranesi beat Buckeyes goaltender Stacy Danczak in the shootout to win it for Minnesota.
The shootout came after the Gophers let a 3-1 lead slip away.
Meghan Lorence opened the scoring just 90 seconds into the game, giving the Gophers the early lead.
After Ohio State tied the score at one just over a minute later, the Gophers pushed it to 2-1 when Lee Stecklein scored at the 6:45 mark of the first period.
Early in the second, Cara Piazza pushed the Gopher lead to 3-1 with her goal.
But Ohio State battled back on a pair of goals by Taylor Kuehl – one in the second and one in the third – to even the score at three.
It stayed that way through overtime and into the shootout, when Cameranesi scored the game-winner.
Lorence finished with a goal and assist for Minnesota.
Minnesota (23-1-4) finishes the series with the Buckeyes Saturday afternoon at Ridder Arena.
