Just days ago we got uplifting Rashad Vaughn news, with the former Robbinsdale Cooper basketball standout stating he had cut his list of potential college destinations to seven, with the Gophers still on that list.
Today, word comes down that the only Minnesota native listed higher than Vaughn on recruiting websites, Apple Valley point guard Tyus Jones, has cancelled his visit to Kentucky.
This is not a huge shock considering the Wildcats just got a commitment from point guard Tyler Ulis, who is considered a top-50 recruit of the 2014 class.
Jones has not officially taken Kentucky off his list, although this seems like an obvious step to do so. Jones still has visits to Kansas and Duke scheduled within the coming month, and with the cancellation of his visit to Kentucky, still has two official visits to use should he choose to do so.
Jones has not made an official visit to Minnesota due to his familiarity with the campus and area, sources say.
The Gophers are still considered a massive underdog for the highly thought of Jones.
In other Barn banter, Lourawls “Tum Tum” Nairn has spurned the Gophers, heading two states over to play for Tom Izzo and Michigan State.
With the four-star point guard passing up the maroon and gold, new head coach Richard Pitino is still searching for his first commitment in the class of 2014.
