The Gophers’ Big Ten road woes continue as they fell to Maryland 70-58 in the Terrapins’ conference debut at home Saturday afternoon.
The Minnesota men are 0-2 in early conference play after losing to Purdue on the road Wednesday, and have lost nine of their last 10 Big Ten road games, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

The Gophers (11-4) were led by Mo Walker with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Carlos Morris who scored 18.
But Maryland’s tough defense shut down Andre Hollins and DeAndre Mathieu, who had just six points combined in the game, according to the Pioneer Press. Hollins finished with two points and Mathieu scored four.
Maryland led almost the entire game, but each team had a scoring run in the first half to keep it close; The Terrapins scored 12 straight to take a 32-17 lead, but the Gophers answered with their own 13-point streak. Minnesota was only down by three, 36-33, at halftime, the Associated Press reports.
Maryland stretched the lead to 12 midway through the second half. The Gophers closed to within seven points with 5:46 remaining, but that was as close as they could get, according to the Pioneer Press.
Minnesota shot just 34 percent from the floor, including 3 for 22 from three-point range, and was outrebounded 44-35, according to the Associated Press.
Maryland was led by freshman point guard Melo Trimble, who had 20 points. The Terrapins (14-1, 2-0) have won seven straight, including a double-overtime win over Michigan State on the road Tuesday.

The Gophers host Ohio State on Tuesday in their Big Ten home opener, looking for their first conference victory.
In his first two seasons, Pitino is a combined 2-9 in the Big Ten on the road, with wins only against Penn State and Northwestern last year.
