When the University of Minnesota men’s hockey team met Boston College at last spring’s Frozen Four, Gopher fans had only one chance to celebrate a goal with the Rouser, losing to the eventual national champ 6-1.
But Sunday night in Minneapolis the tables were turned and BC won’t soon forget how to spell Minnesota. Twelve different Gophers, including freshman goaltender Adam Wilcox, made the scoresheet in Minnesota’s 8-1 rout of the country’s top-ranked team.
Nick Bjugstad had two goals and two assists. Kyle Rau also tallied twice for Minnesota. Wilcox made 32 saves. He lost his shutout bid late in the game during a 5 on 3 Boston College power play. But Wilcox responded by assisting on Sam Warning’s short-handed goal to close the scoring.
With the victory, the Gophers may improve on their No. 4 ranking in the country. Their final non-conference game of the season comes next Tuesday, Jan. 8 against No. 3 Notre Dame.
