We knew when the Gophers hired head coach P.J. Fleck the man could recruit – and his 2018 class is shaping up to be one of the best in the nation.
Currently the Gophers rank 19th in the country, according to 247Sports.com, for the 2018 class. But they’re beating out powerhouse schools like Alabama, USC and even some of our neighbors
- Alabama (No. 62)
- USC (No. 35)
- Washington (No. 20)
- Wisconsin (No. 26)
- Iowa (No. 50)
Four of those five teams finished among the top 10 in the final Associated Press’s Top 25 poll for the 2016 season. Now, those teams can obviously still stockpile some top recruits over the next six months, but Gopher football fans can pound their chests for the moment.
Fleck has also done this without yielding a four- or five-star recruit – he’s been vacuuming up three-stars. And once he lands a big one, the Gophers’ ranking will go even higher.
During the Jerry Kill and Tracy Claeys era, the Gophers never finished above 46th among recruiting classes, and Fleck is already well ahead of that pace.
Obviously the 2018 class wont be here for another year, but Fleck appears to be making Minnesota a desirable destination.
