Fans of the Gopher football team have a chant for how much they hate Iowa.
Whether you deem the chant inappropriate or not, the Gophers indeed hate playing in Iowa because they haven’t won at Kinnick Stadium in this millennium.
The last time the Gophers beat the Hawkeyes in Iowa City was in 1999 – and if you go back to 1982, the Gophers have just two wins in their last 16 trips there.
Yikes.
Fast forward to 2017 and both teams have identical 4-3 records and each have just one win in Big Ten play.
There’s more than just a win at stake here too as this is a rivalry game with the Floyd of Rosedale on the line – a trophy that’s mostly been in Iowa over the last 30 years.
Both teams have put up near identical statistics on the season.
- Gophers score 27 points per game
- Hawkeyes score 26 points per game
- Gophers give up 19 points per game
- Hawkeyes give up 18 points per game
Yet, according to Bovada.com, Iowa is a 7-point favorite over the Gophers – probably because of how terribly Minnesota has played in Iowa over the years.
With Minnesota’s quarterback play a crapshoot, they’ll likely rely on a strong running game backed by Shannon Brooks and Rodney Smith.
Kickoff between the two teams is set for 5:30 p.m. Saturday and the game will be nationally broadcasted on FS1.
