The Minnesota Gophers football team picked up a Big Ten win on Saturday as they defeated Northwestern 20-17. The Gopher defense was the big reason for the victory as they forced three turnovers in the contest.
The Gopher defense picked off Northwestern quarterback Trevor Siemien twice, including one that linebacker James Manuel returned 24 yards for a touchdown.
David Cobb led the Gopher offensive attack, he rushed for 103 yards on 20 carries in the game.
Quarterback Philip Nelson hit on 9 of 11 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown.
The Star Tribune reports that coach Jerry Kill, who is officially on leave to deal with his epilepsy, was in attendance at the game. He watched the game from the press box coaches booth and did address the team at half time.
The Gophers (5-2, 1-2 in Big Ten) play host Nebraska next week.
