New Gopher’s men’s basketball head coach Richard Pitino has had a busy summer.
Between transfers from Joe Coleman, graduation of his two most dominant players, the Gophers summer road trip, bringing in FIU’s Malik Smith, as well as filling out the rest of his 2013-14 roster, AND throwing out the first pitch at local ballparks, he’s barely had a moment to stop and enjoy his new digs.
But with all this in his rear view mirror, he’s had some very direct things to say about the future of the basketball program.
In a feature story by ESPN’s Myron Medcalf, formerly of the Star Tribune, Pitino stated; “I sincerely believe that this place could be a national powerhouse, I really believe it. You’ve got a great conference. You’ve got a great fan base. You’ve got people who care. With the help of them, we can get there.”
How’s that for confidence? Now all he has to do is make it happen.
