It’s official. The Minnesota Timberwolves confirmed Monday that veteran guard J.J. Barea has been waived. The team announced the move about two hours before the 4 p.m. deadline to finalize rosters to 15 players.

According to FOX Sports North, the Wolves had to negotiate a buyout of Barea’s contract, which was entering a final year worth $4.5 million.
Based on reports, the Wolves were deciding between Barea, forward Robbie Hummel and rookie swingman Glen Robinson III, whom they picked in the second round of the most recent draft. Robinson III is the son of former NBA star Glen “Big Dog” Robinson.

Barea is expected to clear waivers, according to multiple reports, and sign with the Dallas Mavericks, whom he won a title with in 2011.
