Yesterday, we offered up a post called “Staggering Slips: 10 mind-numbing Twins losses (so far) (this year)”.
After Andrew Albers’ impressive major league pitching debut last night, we thought we’d go the other way this morning.
We’d like to say that the Twins have 10 fantastic wins this year to match those mind-numbing losses. But we won’t lie. They don’t. Five? We can do that:
1) Wednesday, April 3: Twins 3, Tigers 2: Down 2-1, Eduardo Escobars’ ninth-inning double gives the Twins a walk-off win in the second game of the season over the defending A.L. Champions.
2) Wednesday, May 8: Twins 15, Red Sox 8: Minnesota scored four in the top of the first. Boston answered with five runs in the bottom of that frame. In the second inning, the Twins rebounded with seven more to take control of the game in a stunning Fenway Park comeback.
3) Saturday, June 1: Twins 3, Mariners 2: Down 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth, Ryan Doumit hits a walk-off triple to give the Twins an improbable win over Seattle. Caleb Thielbar gets his first major league win in relief.
4) Saturday, July 13: Twins 4, Yankees 1: Samuel Deduno comes to the rescue as he holds the Yanks to six hits over seven innings in the Bronx as the Twins end a dismal six-game losing streak.
5) Tuesday, Aug. 6: Twins 7, Royals 0: After getting pasted 13-0 the night before, 27-year-old rookie Andrew Albers shines in his major league debut. The Canadian chilled those hot Royal bats, allowing four hits in 8 1/3 innings. It’s a temporary sigh of relief as the true dog days approach.
