Gerritt Cole pitched a complete game for the New York Yankees, with the Minnesota Twins mustering just two hits against the ace as the four-game series at Yankee Stadium was split.
The Twins lineup had no answers to Cole’s masterful performance, which saw rack up 10 strikeouts across nine innings, giving up only a single walk and hits to Donovan Solano and Michael A. Taylor.
The Twins’ Pablo Lopez was solid again, striking out seven batters across six innings, but two hits from DJ LeMahieu proved the difference between the teams.
Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo were on base when LeMahieu hit a single to right in the third inning, with both baserunners sent early, enabling Judge to make it home from second.
LeMahieu doubled the Yankees’ lead in the 6th inning thanks to a “unicorn” homer to Yankee Stadium’s short right porch, with Max Kepler just short of making a catch.

After taking a 2-0 lead in the series Wednesday and Thursday, the Twins dropped the second two and are now 10-6 for the season.
Next up for the Twins is a Monday rest day, followed by another road series, this time at the Boston Red Sox.
