If there was only an NBA version of Housewives of Orange County for sports fans to enjoy.
It would be awesome. The latest episode would follow the war of words between former Wolves superstar Kevin Garnett and LeBron James.
It all started when James — the best player on the planet — made a remark about Garnett turning his back on former teammate Ray Allen following the 2011 season.
Allen, who played with Garnett and the Celtics for five years, signed with James and the Miami Heat as a free agent — a move Garnett didn’t appreciate. KG later said he lost Allen’s phone number.
This summer Garnett, in what James thought was a hypocritical move, waived his no trade clause allowing the Celtics to trade him to New Jersey.
“I think the first thing I thought was, ‘Wow, Ray got killed for leaving Boston and now these guys (Paul Pierce, too) are leaving Boston,’” James said, as reported by ESPN.
“I think it’s OK; I didn’t mind it. But there were a couple guys who basically [expletive] on Ray for leaving, and now they’re leaving. That’s the nature of our business, man. I don’t know what Boston was going through at the end of the day. I know Ray had to make the best decision for him and his family and his career. Doc, KG and Paul did that as well. You can’t criticize someone who does something that’s best for their family.”
When KG caught wind of LeBron’s remark he fired back.
“Tell LeBron to worry about Miami,” Garnett said. “He has nothing to do with Celtic business.”
This feud is clearly developing and we highly doubt it will settle down… at least not until the LeBron and the two-time defending champion Heat make mince meat out of Garnett and the rebuilding Nets.
They’ll get that chance in the third game of the season, Nov. 1 in Brooklyn.
