The World Baseball Classic is underway and the Twins are feeling the effects as 13 players left spring training to play for their respective countries.
It’s one of the highest totals in Major League Baseball, and it’s making life difficult for manager Ron Gardenhire.
The 3-4-5 hitters during Sunday’s game against the Rays featured Josh Willingham, Ryan Doumit and Trevor Plouffe. Typically, it would be Joe Mauer, Willingham and Justin Morneau — but Mauer and Morneau are playing in the WBC.
