Former Minnesota Golden Gophers guard Gabe Kalscheur announced that he is transferring to Iowa State. His decision came on Saturday morning as he thanked the Gopher program and expressed excitement toward a “fresh start” in Ames.
I would like to thank the University of Minnesota community, fans, and my teammates for all their love and support the past 3 years. Minnesota will always be home to me. The DeLaSalle High School graduate entered the transfer portal once Ben Johnson was hired to replace Richard Pitino last month. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 9.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists last season but saw his season come to an end after breaking a finger on his shooting hand in February.
Kalscheur was one of eight players that entered the transfer portal after Johnson was hired. Marcus Carr, Liam Robbins and Jamal Mashburn Jr. are among those players, leaving the roster with major turnover heading into next season.
