After a one-year disaster with the Minnesota Vikings, quarterback Josh Freeman has signed with the New York Giants, according to his agent Erik Burkhardt.
As Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press put it, “The best quarterback in Vikings history once went to the New York Giants. Now, the worst one (at least statistically) will.”
Tomasson was referencing Fran Tarkenton as the best in franchise history and Freeman as the worst, based on the numbers he posted in the only game he played for the Vikings.
It was on Monday Night Football against the Giants at MetLife Stadium. Freeman completed just 20 of 53 passes for less than 200 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. He set a modern day record with 18 overthrown passes. See all of his horrifying stats from the game right here.
The free fall Freeman has been on over the past year has been incredible. He went from being a former Pro Bowl starting quarterback with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to getting released, signed by the Vikings, starting one game and then sitting the rest of the season. He became a free agent earlier this offseason, but at this point, it’s obvious that Freeman’s new role in the NFL will be as a backup quarterback, according to Yahoo! Sports.
Freeman could have just as easily wound up with the Green Bay Packers. According to Pro Football Talk, if backup quarterback Matt Flynn hadn’t decided to remain in Green Bay, the Packers likely would have swooped in to sign Freeman.
KEVIN WILLIAMS IN NYC?
Veteran defensive tackle Kevin Williams left New York without signing a contract with the Giants on Tuesday, but he was enamored with the visit.
“Oh, man, it’s New York City,’’ Williams said in an interview with the Pioneer Press on Wednesday. “I think that sells itself. I definitely liked the visit. Now, we’ll see what happens.’’
Williams said he wasn’t offered a contract, but his agent is handling the situation from here on out.
