The Timberwolves picked a bad time to go into New Orleans and play the Pelicans, who waited out rumors leading up to Thursday’s NBA trade deadline before ultimately holding onto superstar power forward Anthony Davis.
Davis, who requested a trade weeks ago, played for the first time since making that request and he lit up the Wolves with 32 points in just 25 minutes to lead the Pelicans to a 127-117 win over the Wolves.
It’s the fourth straight loss for Minnesota and their sixth in the last seven games.
“It has been a long road trip. Guys are fatigued and banged up, trying to figure out a way to win,” forward Taj Gibson said, via ESPN. “We came real close; we just didn’t have enough to pull it off.”
Karl-Anthony Towns scored 32 points and Andrew Wiggins filled the stat sheet with 23 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
The Wolves are 25-30, four-and-a-half games out of the Western Conference playoff picture.
