The Timberwolves will get a chance to fill the hole at shooting guard now that NBA free agency is under way.
The Pioneer Press reports the team has already met with guard O.J. Mayo, who played with the Dallas Mavericks last season. Four other teams are also interest in Mayo as well.
The team also reportedly called Oklahoma City free-agent guard Kevin Martin.
Other names to keep an eye on include J.J. Redick, Marco Belinelli and Kyle Korver, according to the Pioneer Press.
Reports indicate that Wolves president of basketball operations Flip Saunders has already made contact with the agents for Redick and small forward Dorell Wright.
KSTP-TV reports the Wolves are interested in former DeLaSalle High School star, Alan Anderson.
Minnesota could bring back small forward Andrei Kirilenko, but he wants a longterm deal. He tells Sports Express in Russia that he loves everything about Minnesota, “except for the term of his contract.”
Saunders also wants to re-sign center Nikola Pekovic and small forward Chase Budinger.
Pekovic is a restricted free-agent, so Minnesota has the right to match any offer he receives.
Budinger is an unrestricted free-agent, who the Wolves also met with over the weekend. Budinger, who may fetch $4 million or more per year on the open market, tells the Star-Tribune that the Wolves “know how I feel” and that he hasn’t met with any other teams.
Mayo should be the top choice, according to Bleacher Report.
According to the Star Tribune, the Wolves have approximately $7 million to spend in free agency.
