Leslie Frazier must be doing something right.
In a lost season that has left Minnesota playing for nothing but pride, the head coach continues to find a way to get the best out of his players, and it paid off Sunday in a 48-30 win over Philadelphia.
Frazier was visibly excited postgame, here’s what his presser sounded like after the Vikings win.
“How about those Vikings? Great win by our players, we had so many guys step up in the absence of our starters. To see Matt Cassel come out and play the way he did, Matt Asiata to step into Adrian’s (Peterson) shoes and play the way he did. Our defense, to hold the leading rusher in the league to 38 yards, a tremendous effort. The big sacks, the big hits, lot of good things by our football team.”
Did you see this coming? “I knew early in the week that we matched up well with this team. I knew our guys would play hard and give everything they have. You can’t ever count out our players.”
On Adrian Peterson: “Watched him work out on Friday, did some more with him on Saturday. He’s pushing all the way to this morning, but had to think globally and not just at this one game. At the end of the day he realizes it was the right thing to do, I think he does.”
On the effort of players: “Credit the leaders on this football team. They prepare, they work hard. There have been so many moments over this season where guys could’ve jumped ship. You need a good locker room, high character guys, and we have that.”
On his job security: “We approach these ballgames like we did in September or October. That (his job) is not my mindset.”
On Matt Cassel: “It seems like his experience really shows up. He has a good idea of how we want to run our offense. His veteran experience is what separates him at this point. Very impressed, he took advantage of this opportunity.”
Questions at quarterback for next week: “No, I don’t think there’s any question.”
On field position on kickoffs: “It really helps us set things up offensively. The Cordarrelle Patterson effect.”
On Patterson: “His confidence is growing, today was another day of growth for him.”
Will AP be back next week? “I would anticipate he’d be back on the field.”
On Matt Asiata: “He’s been through a lot, to see him rewarded, so grateful for him.”
