Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier shed some light on what might happen with running back Adrian Peterson this week.
The big question about Peterson, who suffered a painful mid-foot sprain during the second quarter of the Vikings’ 29-26 loss to Baltimore on Sunday, is whether he’ll play Sunday when the Vikings host the Philadelphia Eagles at Mall of America Field.
“I don’t know. We’ll see how he moves around… probably Thursday and make a decision there,” Frazier told Dan Barreiro during his daily interview on KFAN. “They took him out of the boot today so he’s able to put a little weight on it. We’ll put him in the pool tomorrow, let him do some things in the swim pool and then we’ll put him on land on Thursday and see how he feels.”
Frazier confirmed reports that Peterson didn’t suffer any structural damage to his foot.
“No Lisfranc or no broken bones,” Frazier said. “That was really, really encouraging. Now it’s a matter of more pain tolerance than anything with a bone bruise.”
Reports earlier Tuesday said it’s unlikely Peterson will play this week.
Frazier also noted that he won’t shut down Peterson for the season for precautionary reasons if Peterson is capable of playing.
“Not if he’s physically able to perform. That wouldn’t be fair to him, or our team or our organization. We want to win these games. He wants to play if he’s healthy,” he said. “Now we’re not going to put him out there if he’s not healthy. That wouldn’t be wise. But if he’s healthy and he’s ready to go… why wouldn’t we?”
“We’re trying to win these games and he wants to play and we want him to play.”
