Four Gophers football players suspended ahead of Saturday’s win are being investigated by the police.
Cornerbacks KiAnte Hardin and Ray Buford, safety Dior Johnson and defensive end Tamarion Johnson played no part in the 58-28 win over Indiana State at TCF Bank Stadium, the Pioneer Press reports, but Coach Tracey Claeys did not reveal the reason for their suspension.
“They’re suspended because they busted the team rules,” he told reporters. “We’ll deal with it day by day.”
It later emerged that Minneapolis police are investigating the circumstances surrounding their suspension, with a spokesman telling the Star Tribune: “We are working to determine how they are involved in the case at this time.”
The newspaper notes that Hardin played most of last week’s opener against Oregon State, making six tackles and two pass breakups.
It’s not clear at this stage how long their suspensions will be, KARE 11 notes, but Claeys said he’s confident the team has sufficient cover at their positions.
