Mitch Garver took a foul ball to the groin and was forced to leave Tuesday’s game between to the Twins and Orioles in Baltimore.
It happened two batters into the game when Trey Mancini fouled off a slider from Michael Pineda, with the foul tip hitting Garver right between the legs.
After being down and in pain for a few minutes, Graver was able to gingerly walk off the field. It was bad enough that he was taken to the University of Maryland Medical Center. The Twins say Garver suffered a groin contusion and will be evaluated again on Wednesday.
“It’s probably unlikely that Mitch is going to be catching anytime soon,” manager Rocco Baldelli said. “To be honest, he’s in rough shape.”
“I [was] really worried, because the way he looked, it made me nervous,” said Pineda “It didn’t look good. I wasn’t thinking about pitching, I was thinking about my teammate, because the way he looked, I felt like it was a lot of pain.”
The Twins lost the game 7-4. The wrap up the series in Baltimore Wednesday at 6:05 p.m.
