Former Minnesota Wild forward Dany Heatley has signed a one-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks.
Financial details of the contract were not disclosed, but TSN’s Darren Dreger reports the deal is for $1 million.
Yahoo! Sports reports Anaheim is looking for veteran help at forward following the retirement of Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu’s departure.
Heatley, 33, played the past three seasons with the Wild. He scored 47 goals and tallied 102 points in 194 games. For his career, Heatley has scored 372 goals and 791 points in 863 games.
According to The Associated Press, Heatley is a four-time All Star and a two-time 50-goal scorer. He also ranks second amongst active NHL players with 143 power-play goals.
Heatley is on the back edge of his career, but wanted to continue playing.
“I have lots left in the tank,” Heatley told reporters during a conference call. “I was in a tough spot in Minnesota, and I feel like I have a lot to prove, a lot to give. I want to prove a lot of people wrong. I’m very happy Anaheim has given me that chance.”
Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher told the Pioneer Press last month that he believes there is a spot for Heatley in the NHL.
I really believe he can help a team, and I believe he will get another opportunity. He’s got such high character, he’s such a tremendous human being, I hope for him he gets an opportunity and it works out great.
Heatley’s goals and points per game dipped to career lows last season with the Wild. He managed just 12 goals and 28 points in 76 games.
