Former Vikings backup QB Kellen Mond has signed with the New Orleans Saints.
The former third-round pick by the Vikings has bounced around since being cut by Minnesota at the end of the 2022 training camp.
He spent the 2022 season with Cleveland Browns, but was cut again at the conclusion of Cleveland’s 2023 training camp and eventually landed on the Indianapolis Colts practice squad.
The Athletic’s Matt Barrows reported that Mond worked out for the 49ers last week.
Now in New Orleans, Mond will reunite with former Vikings offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who holds the same role with the Saints.
Mond appeared in just one game during his rookie season in 2021, completing two-of-three passes for five yards in the Vikings 37-10 Week 16 loss to the Packers, which ended the Vikings season under then head coach Mike Zimmer.
After the game, Zimmer was asked whether he wanted to give Mond a start in the dead rubber season finale against the Chicago Bears, and answered “not particularly.”
When asked why not, Zimmer said: “I see him every day.”
