Blair Walsh has found a new team and irony of all ironies, it’s the Seattle Seahawks.
The kicker famously had a 27-yard, last-second field goal that would have handed the Vikes a playoff win over the ‘Hawks last year, only to see his attempt go wide left.
He was cut by the Vikings as he continued to struggle during this past season and was replaced by Kai Forbath.
The Seahawks announced Walsh’s signing on Thursday afternoon, saying he will be competition for their starting kicker Steven Hauschka.
Walsh, a former Pro Bowler, will have a tough time dislodging Hauschka though, with the kicker having the third-best field goal percentage in NFL history and posting four straight seasons with 29-plus field goals made.
But Hauschka had some problems with extra points in 2016, seeing six attempts blocked or missed, leading Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll to say he “got in a little bit of a rut.”
The response to his signing on social media has been … well, what you’d expect.
