Former Vikings quarterback and current CBS NFL analyst Rich Gannon said the Vikings quarterback situation is in good hands after watching the team’s final minicamp of the year Thursday.
“I think it’s a healthy situation,” Gannon told the media Thursday. “Teddy Bridgewater comes into a great situation, having two veteran guys who have played and have experience.”
Gannon also said he was impressed by his first up-close look at Bridgewater.
“(Bridgewater) sees the field well, and that’s something that’s impressive for a young quarterback, because I remember when I came in it was going so fast,” Gannon said. “I just wanted it to slow down. I think it shows that he came from a pro-style offense and getting the ball out quick.”
Gannon, who played for the Vikings from 1987-1992, was among a dozen former Vikings at Winter Park Thursday, according to the Star Tribune’s Matt Vensel.
Gannon continued to give praise to the rookie quarterback. He said Bridgwater has both good arm talent and good accuracy, but will continue to improve in other areas as his career goes along.
“The other thing that you are going to see is he’s going to get bigger and stronger,” Gannon said. “There’s no question about it when you look at his frame.”
Gannon also had a chance to throw out his opinion on the ongoing debate between Adrian Peterson and LeSean McCoy.

Besides watching the team practice, Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press wrote that Gannon visited with Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner while at Winter Park. Turner was Gannon’s head coach during Gannon’s final season in Oakland.
When it comes to who will win the quarterback competition this year, Gannon said he is not ready to make any predictions, but did say it will be fun to watch how the competition plays out.
The team will now have five weeks off after finishing minicamp. Players report to training camp July 24.
