Former Vikings first-round pick quarterback Christian Ponder is back in the NFL. Multiple reports indicate the 27-year-old has agreed to a contract with the Denver Broncos.
According to 1500 ESPN, Ponder will add some depth at quarterback for the Broncos until Peyton Manning is able to return from a foot injury.
Manning is expected to miss at least two weeks, according to reports.
In Denver, Ponder will serve as a backup to previous backup Brock Osweiler. Osweiler is expected to start Sunday against New England because Peyton Manning – the regular starter – was told to sit for at least a couple weeks due to a foot injury, Colorado’s 9 News reports.

The Broncos also have Trevor Sieman, an undrafted rookie, on the roster, Pro Football Talk notes.
In 36 starts with the Vikings over four seasons, Ponder connected on 632-of-1,057 passes for 6,658 yards. He threw 38 touchdowns and ran for seven more, while committing 46 turnovers (interceptions and fumbles lost).
Only semi-related: the Ponders have an Instagram dedicated to their child, Scout Ponder. Here’s one of the posted photos.
