Former Gopher men’s basketball player Damian Johnson accepted the head coaching job at North St. Paul High School. Johnson played at the U of M from 2006-10, where he averaged 7.3 points, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game.
After leaving the Gophers, he played in NBA D-League and was also playing professional basketball in Australia.
Before taking the vacant position at North St. Paul, Johnson was the assistant head coach at Eden Prairie.
The Polars made the state tournament in 2015 for the first time in 17 years and they have one of the most talented players in the state in Goodnews Kpegeol.
Kpegeol averaged over 20 points per game last season and he’ll be a senior next season.
