A former Edina hockey standout announced that he will return to Minnesota and play hockey for the Gophers this fall.
Tyler Nanne, a goal-scoring defenseman, made the announcement on his Instagram page Tuesday afternoon. He spent one season at Ohio State, but never played in a single game with the Buckeyes.
According to the Star Tribune, Nanne was diagnosed with Myocarditis – inflammation of the heart muscle caused by a virus – and has had to miss the last 15 months.
Following the illness, Nanne announced that he’s had a change of heart and wants to play for Minnesota.

Nanne was cleared by doctors at Mayo Clinic earlier this year and he was on Minnesota’s campus Monday for a physical. Nanne plans to file a NCAA transfer waiver and hopes to be able to play for the Gophers this season.
While in high school Nanne helped lead Edina to back-to-back state championships. He’s already been drafted into the NHL, the New York Rangers took him in the fifth round of the 2014 draft.
