Minnesota native and former Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders is fronting a group of prospective buyers interested in purchasing Minnesota’s NBA franchise, the Associated Press reports.
Current owner Glen Taylor confirmed that he has had conversations with Saunders, who would likely take over as head of basketball operations if a deal was made.
Saunders, who coached the Timberwolves for nine seasons, was fired in 2005 — the season after the Timberwolves lost to Los Angeles in the Western Conference finals.
As for David Kahn’s future, Taylor told the Associated Press that he would evaluate Kahn’s job status as president of basketball operations when the season is over.
Star Tribune columnist Chip Scoggins believes Kahn should not be re-signed to another contract, writing: “Giving Kahn one more chance would be bad business and dangerous to the future of this organization … Kahn had his turn.”
