A record 1,426 people from around the globe made Forbes magazine’s latest annual tally of billionaires, Reuters reports. That’s 210 more members than the previous ranking of the exclusive 10-figure club. The United States once again led the list with 442 billionaires.
The world’s wealthiest people, who have a total net worth of $5.4 trillion, include five Minnesotans, Fox 9 notes.
No. 316 (tie): Barbara Carlson Gage has a net worth of $4.1 billion – Carlson Inc.

No. 395: Whitney MacMillan has a net worth of $3.4 billion – Cargill Inc.
No. 704: Stanley Hubbard has a net worth of $2.1 billion – DirecTV
No. 882: Glen Taylor has a net worth of $1.7 billion – Taylor Corp. / Timberwolves/Lynx majority owner
The same five Minnesotans were among Forbes list of the 400 richest Americans last September.
Best Buy founder Richard Schulze also made the most recent list with a net worth of $1.45 billion, but he now lives in Florida. He withdrew his efforts to take the company he founded private last month.
Carlos Slim, a telecommunications mogul from Mexico, remained the richest person with a fortune of $73 billion. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates held on to the No. 2 spot with a net worth of $67 billion.
Warren Buffett dropped to No. 4 on the list after more than a decade in the top 3.
