The Twins are 39-53 entering the second half of the season and things are not looking good.
Aaron Gleeman looked back at the dismal first half and analyzed the production, or lack there of, the Twins had the plate. Joe Mauer (.320) is the only player with a batting average above .300. The next best average belongs to Justin Morneau (.273).
On Monday, Charley Walters reported that Justin Morneau will likely be traded before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.
Twins president Dave St. Peter told KFAN-FM 100.3 that any trade Minnesota makes will be for value, not to simply dump salary.
In the bullpen, right-hander Casey Fien has been a nice find for the Twins. Twins Daily’s Parker Hageman writes that Fien has given the Twins $7 million worth of production value. Fien is making less than $1 million this season.
The best pitcher in the bullpen has been Glen Perkins. Yahoo! Sports ranks Perkins among a group of closers in the “Rock Steady” group, or one tier below the “Elite” closers.
