The NFC North is changing. Today, running back Matt Forte announced that the Chicago Bears are not going to bring him back next season, meaning he’ll be a free agent headed elsewhere.
Forte is out of the Vikings division – for now – just weeks after Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson announced his retirement.
Forte wrote on Instagram:
“Despite my wishes, my days as a member of the Chicago Bears have sadly come to an end. I was informed earlier this week from the GM that they will not be attempting to re-sign me in free agency. I will remain forever grateful for my time spent in Chicago and being able to play for an organization with such a rich history. My only regret is not being able to win a Lombardi trophy for the best fans in all of sports. I’m excited about the next chapter of my NFL career. But, Chicago will always be home. God Bless and Bear Down!”

The 30 year old doesn’t plan to hang up his cleats yet, so there’s still a chance the Vikings will have to face him again.
In 15 career games against Minnesota Forte has rushed for 1,092 yards while adding 63 receptions, according to Football Reference.
Without Forte, there’s a reasonable expectation for Jeremy Langford to take the No. 1 running back job in Chicago. Langford rushed for 537 yards and 6 touchdowns while proving to be a reliable pass catcher out of the backfield.
