Another day and another rough night at the plate for the Twins as they suffered a 5-1 loss to the Houston Astros Tuesday night.
Minnesota managed just six hits and five walks and wound up going 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. They were led by Christian Vazquez’s two singles, one of which drove in the only run of the game in the fifth inning. The Twins’ only extra-base hit was a double by Royce Lewis.
Carlos Correa went 1-for-4 and actually upped his batting average from .210 to .211. Byron Buxton went 0-for-3 to see his batting average dip to .225. He’s batting .185 in May with just six RBI in 81 at-bats.
Max Kepler went 0-for-4. He’s batting .143 in May and is 0-for-9 since returning from the injured list. His batting average for the season is a whopping .194.
Joey Gallo? Also 0-for-4 to see his batting average this season dip to .200, including a dismal .183 clip in May with just four homers and nine RBI.
The Twins have scored three or fewer runs in 13 of 26 games this month.
The Astros got homers from Alex Bregman and Chas McCormick, both coming off Twins right-hander Joe Ryan, who had his worst start of the season. He allowed five runs on four hits and three walks and lasted only four inning. The 26-year-old still boasts a 2.77 ERA despite the subpar outing.
The Twins were 17-12 at the end of April and they’ve since won just 11 games compared to 15 losses to find themselves at 28-27 entering the final day of May.
