Former Twins Ben Revere and Delmon Young visit Target Field this week as the Phillies come in for a three-game series.
Neither outfielder is having much success in manager Charlie Manuel’s lineup, however.
In 34 games, Young is hitting a career-worst .232. In 58 games, Revere is hitting .244 — a full 50 points lower than what he hit last year with the Twins.
“I still think Delmon Young will hit,” Manuel told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
When it comes to OPS — on base percentage plus slugging percentage, the numbers are even more frightening for Revere.
Revere’s OPS is .562. The major league average for outfielders is .744.
Among all qualifying players in the major leagues, Revere is at the rock bottom — which means he’s not getting a lot of walks — and he doesn’t hit for power.
Revere is still keeping his head up, though.
It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish,” he told MLB.com. “I’m going to try to do my best to help this team make the playoffs and everything. I’m trying to get a World Series ring. Anything I can do, once you get in the playoffs, you can knock all the regular-season stuff out of the water and then start over again next year.”
