He’s considered a long shot to make the San Francisco 49ers roster, but former Gophers quarterback Marqueis Gray says he’ll do what it takes to play in the NFL.
Undrafted this spring, Gray joined the 49ers in late April as a free agent.
“I got numerous calls after the draft,” Gray told the Minnesota Daily. “But they were the first team that called.”
In 49ers training camp, Gray has taken a lot of snaps at tight end and admits the transition is a work in progress.
“It really doesn’t matter what position I play,” he said. “I just want to make this team.”
According to the Niners Nation blog on SB Nation, Gray’s chances of making the final roster are said to be “slim.” Instead, Gray will likely head to the practice squad where he can learn the ropes at tight end in an effort to make the 2014 squad.
“All I can do is work hard,” he said.
