Former Golden Gophers football player Joey Balthazor and two former Vanderbilt football players have filed a lawsuit in Minnesota against the NCAA in regards to player safety, according to the Pioneer Press.
The lawsuit claims the NCAA failed to properly inform players about the risk of concussions and head injuries, which are frequently connected to football.
Per the Star Tribune, the lawsuit also alleges the NCAA failed to properly teach players how to prevent, monitor and treat brain injuries.
The trio of players hope that the NCAA will develop a fund to pay for long-term medical monitoring for all college football players.
The suit says “the plaintiffs and members of the class will continue to face increased risks of injury and disability, without proper diagnosis and opportunity for rehabilitation.”
Concussion effects the three players say they still suffer from to this day include dizziness, irritability, headaches, mood swings, loss of memory, fatigue, sleep problems, numbness and tingling sensations, and neck and head pain.
Balthazor played linebacker for the Gophers from 2009-2012.
