David Cobb’s rookie season with the Tennessee Titans could finally begin when the Titans play the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday Night Football.
According to the Tennessean, Titans coach Mike Mularkey said “there’s a chance” Cobb could get some action in the game.
Cobb, the Gophers’ leading rusher last season, was a fifth-round pick by the Titans but his rookie season was delayed due to a calf injury he suffered in training camp. He was activated from injured reserve last week but didn’t play in the Titans’ loss to the Panthers.
“Mix him in with those runs that we feel comfortable with him running, the protections that he does within the personnel groupings of the game plan,” Titans offensive coordinator Jason Michael said of Cobb, per ESPN. “And find something for him specifically as well as giving Antonio (Andrews) a blow, or whatever that may be as the game goes along.”
The Titans could use some help in the running game as they rank 25th in the league in rushing. Antonio Andrews leads Tennessee with 298 yards, which is nearly 600 yards fewer than league leader Adrian Peterson.
Cobb led Minnesota with 1,626 rushing yards last season, setting a single-season school rushing record in the process.
