Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer will undergo emergency eye surgery late Wednesday night.
Few details are available other than a statement from Vikings general manager Rick Spielman.
“Mike Zimmer is having emergency eye surgery tonight. His status for coaching tomorrow’s game is uncertain. I have met with the coaches and players and we have a contingency plan in place if Mike is unable to coach against Dallas.”
If Zimmer is unavailable to coach against the Cowboys Thursday night the Vikings would likely turn to former NFL head coaches Tony Sparano or Pat Shurmur, according to Adam Schefter. Shurmur runs the Vikings’ offense and Sparano coaches the offensive line.
Shurmur was a head coach in Cleveland and Sparano a head coach in Miami.
Zimmer had surgery to repair a torn retina earlier this season.
🙏 for Zimm. When I interviewed him yesterday his right eye was in bad shape. I feel awful for him. https://t.co/ymslYZl1Ic
