Uh-oh. Philly might want to prepare for the “You like that!” version of Kirk Cousins now that his former teammate in Washington – Zach Brown, now with the Eagles – ripped him publicly on Friday.
“Cousins, I think every defense is going to want that guy to throw the ball,” Brown said, via ESPN. “For me, that’s probably the weakest part of their offense is him. Everything else is good. They’ve got a good running game, probably one of the best in the league. They have real good receivers. You just want them to pass the ball. You want Kirk Cousins to get it in his hands.”
Turnover machine? Cousins does tend to fumble a lot, but his 13 interceptions in 2017 when he played with Collins for the Redskins doesn’t exactly qualify as a turnover machine. Sure, he also lost seven fumbles, but if he’s been anything in Minnesota it’s that he hasn’t been aggressive enough.
“I realized when I was in Washington, he was kind of careless with the ball. But at the same time, hey, you make the bed you sleep in,” Brown added.
Brown’s rip on Cousins comes a week after Cousins said he is making an effort to channel his inner “You like that!,” the statement he yelled at TV cameras following a big game with the Redskins in 2015.
“There’s no doubt I play better when I have an edge to me, when that guy who yelled ‘You like that!’ comes out,” said Cousins Tuesday night. “Believe me, the last week has brought that guy out a little bit in me. There’s some fire there and some edge … and that’s when I play better. I’m going to try to channel that every week going forward and have a little edge to me. This game requires that to play at a high level.”
Cousins said he’s always looking for extra motivation, so maybe a thank you card will be in the mail headed for Collins if Cousins carves up the Eagles’ secondary the way most quarterbacks have this season.
Philly is No. 1 against the run but 27th against the pass.
