If Timberwolves rookie point guard Tyus Jones had a basketball clone it would be his younger brother, Tre Jones, a sophomore at Apple Valley High School who won’t graduate until 2018.
Duke head coach Mike Kryzewski must feel the same way because on Thursday he offered a scholarship to the younger Jones.
Tyus offered his little brother congratulations on Twitter.
Tyus, one year after leading Apple Valley to the Minnesota high school state championship in 2014, was voted the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Final Four en route to coming up clutch in a championship victory over the Wisconsin Badgers.
About a month before Duke won the national championship, Tre was the starting freshman point guard leading Apple Valley to a second consecutive Class 4A state title.
According to the Fayetteville Observer, fellow Apple Valley standout, Gary Trent Jr., has also received an offer from Coach K and Duke.
Rivals ranks Trent No. 14 in the country and a five-star recruit in the Class of 2017.
Darren Wolfson adds that Jones has now received offers from four high-major schools, including the Gophers, Texas Tech and Baylor. The Pioneer Press says former Gophers coach Tubby Smith, now at Texas Tech, was the first to offer Jones.
