The American League and National League All-Star teams have been set, the final players have been voted on, and while the game is set for Tuesday night at Target Field, there are some deserving players who didn’t make the All-Star rosters this season.
We at Bring Me the News have put together a list of players who deserve to be playing at Target Field on Tuesday night, but who won’t be.
American League
- Ian Kinsler, 2B, Detroit Tigers– While the American League is loaded at second base, it’s hard to believe that Kinsler isn’t in the game. He is hitting .305 with 11 home runs, with the Tigers. The Bleacher Report says a case can be made that Kinsler is enjoying his best year since 2008.
- Garrett Richards, P, Los Angeles Angels – Richards has posted a 10-2 record with a 2.71 ERA. According to USA Today, his 96.1 mph average fastball ranks second in the American League.
- Brian Dozier, 2B, Minnesota Twins – Like Kinsler, Dozier is stuck in a crowded field of talented American League second baseman. He leads the Twins with 16 home runs and he leads the American League with 63 runs scored, plus the game is being played at his home ballpark.
National League
- Huston Street, P, San Diego Padres – Street has been automatic for San Diego this season. He has 23 saves and a 1.13 ERA. Not only was Street snubbed from the All-Star game, The Sporting News reports that he could be on the move before the trade deadline.
- Josh Beckett, P, Los Angeles Dodgers – All he has done in his career is win 148 games, throw a recent no-hitter last October and establish himself as one of the game’s best pitchers, but not even Beckett’s 2.26 ERA in 103 innings can get him in to the All-Star Game. He had been left off the All-Star roster before hitting the disabled list with a hip injury.
- Justin Morneau, 1B, Colorado Rockies – A massive effort to #VoteMorneau came up short in the final fan vote, but Morneau, who hit .313 with 13 home runs and 59 RBIs coming into Thursday’s games will compete in the Home Run Derby at his former ballpark.
