The company pitching a $400 million development for the eastern end of downtown Minneapolis has modified its proposal.
Ryan Cos. has dropped the part of the plan that called for closing two streets to create a park, the Pioneer Press reports. A Ryan vice-president made a presentation to the Minneapolis Planning Commission Thursday evening.
Finance & Commerce notes another change moves a 125-unit apartment building into the first phase of the project. It was first envisioned as part of a later phase.
The plan, first announced publicly in May, involves offices, retail, and parking, in addition to the housing and green space. It covers a five-block area near the Metrodome, most of which is now occupied by the Star Tribune building and surface parking lots.
The development is seen as a complement to the new Vikings stadium that will be built on the site of the Metrodome. Finance & Commerce reports Ryan Cos. says, if all goes as planned, a groundbreaking for the first phase of the project could come in April.
